July 28 - Alliant Energy Center FMCA Rally - Madison, WI
This morning we left the campground around 7 AM with the idea we would get to the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin. We weren't far off from that estimate even with stopping at a TA Travel Center for diesel. When we arrived they put us in the Holding Area but in no time we were moving to our permanent location in Lot B, 2nd Street & Row 49. Our travel buddies Laurie & Bob had arrived the night before and were already set up in their spot. Both of us had prepaid for electric except we were able to get 50 amps and they only could get 30 amps since they signed up late. The funny thing is we texted them our location but they had no idea where lot B was nor did the driver of the golf cart they were riding. So he drive them all over the complex looking for Lot B and it was right next to the lot they were in. After we all turned in our locator cards and received our rally bags full of goodies we decided to go sight seeing. But before that we went to Cracker Barrel for food. George always gets the Sunrise Skillet with sawmill gravy. Bob got French toast & eggs. Laurie got a well done egg and bacon and I got pecan pancakes which I had never had but would certainly get them again. From there we went back to the RV's to put the awnings down since I looked at Weather Bug App and it looked like a big storm front was coming. We then drove to the Wisconsin Dells to take a horse drawn wagon through a narrow gorge. From a peep interested in geology, the rock formations were cool but... In reality it is what we refer to as a TT. From there we decided to ride the Original Wisconsin Dell Ducks which we all were convinced was going to break down any minute by the noise of the amphibian vehicle. There is no way the military could perform a sneak attack in these things unless the opposing army was all wearing ear plugs. We had fun on the Ducks tour and the scenery was gorgeous. On the way back we got gas and stopped at another cheese manufacturer. I bought bacon jerky, cheese fudge, Hawaiian Bratwurst, Gouda, hot & sweet mustard. Then we came back and went to our own RVs. After dinner I took the dogs for a nice long walk and ran into Laurie & Bob riding their bikes. Then George came up to us on his scooter and I told him Laurie & Bob were out and about so he went to look for them. Of course when I went back it was the one time I didn't have my keys and it was locked so I sat down in the chair George had set out. George loves to sit outside and read his magazines. I prefer to be inside with no flying insects buzzing in my ears. He will like walking the dogs here as he is a social butterfly and there are plenty of RV enthusiasts to chat with. Eventually he came back with Laurie & Bob. We sat and chatted and then the mosquitoes started biting and we dispersed. George had several large welts. They normally don't bite me and since George has been on oxygen, the Jersey skeeters haven't found him tasty. So it was a bit of a shock to him to be bitten by the Wisconsin State Bird which is what the locals refer to the mosquito as.
