July 24 - EAA AirVenture 2015 - Day 5
Well today was a switch, George slept in and I got up at 6:00 and took the dogs for a long walk. We came back and he was still snoozing so instead of putting Abby in the bathroom to eat, I put Nutmeg. Abby wolfed down her wet food and then went in her cubby hole under a chair. When I let Nutmeg out, I also picked up her empty dish. Abby went to check it out and the door was closed. While I brewed coffee for myself I played with the dogs. George got up at 8:00 and I brewed him his chai. I took the dogs out again at 9:00, and then we decided to go to a cheese shop that makes the cheese there. It's Widmer's Cheese Cellars. On the way we bought our first fast food of the trip and got Sausage Mc Griddles meals. Then we headed to the cheese shop which was about 39 miles South of Oshkosh. When we arrived there was a tour bus with all the people crammed into this tiny shop. The shop sent them outside to taste cheese on crackers. We bought a baby Swiss, Gouda, horseradish cheese spread, Gorgonzola, spreadable aged Asiago. When we got back to Oshkosh, I did some food shopping while George washed the MDX which was dirty from being towed in the rain storm. We had lunch, and then rode the scooters to the convention grounds for the air show at 2:30. We sat under a plane wing in the shade. Today's show included 112 parachutists; precision flying vintage propeller planes; Good Year blimp, acrobatic biplanes; a biplane which also was fitted with a jet engine; acrobatic jet; clown type act; F-100 Super Saber Jets; F-4 Phantom II precision flying demo; F-22 Raptor and the highlight a USMC AV-AB Harrier 2. The noise was deafening but wonderful at the same time. I got a lot of great photos that are once in a lifetime shots. At the end the F-22 Raptor, a P-38 & a P-51 flew together in precision flying. We actually had seen them practicing that maneuver the day before while at our RV. I bought myself a T-Shirt commemorating the EAA Oshkosh AirVenture 2015 convention and George a baseball cap of the same. When we got back to the RV we met our neighbors. Funny thing is they are building a Buttercup Kit Plane. They bought an old Chevy Corvair and had the engine removed and refitted for the plane's engine. They already have a plane but this is something they always wanted to do, or let me refrain, it's something the husband always wanted to do lol.
